Children are back in school, Ohio State football begins tomorrow
night, and Halloween items are stocked on local store shelves. The Spring/Summer of 2015 is officially over!
Do you think, like I do, that the days
went by way too quickly?
Our Betty Brewer’s
volunteers were very busy these past months!
While continuing their
weekly one-on-one visits to long term care facilities brightening the lives of
lonely residents, they had the opportunity to take part in the
following:
MARCH
We attended Westminster Thurber Community’s annual “Tools for
the Servant”. This year’s topic was “How
Can a Church Help Older Parishioners Manage Change?” Thank you to Westminster Thurber Community for
inviting us every year to what is always an inspiring program.
APRIL
We had our first Volunteer Potluck. Since our volunteers learn so much from each others experiences, we decided to have a casual get together at the Ironwood Club House with food and fellowship with no guest speakers. Thank you to our volunteer, Judy Bline, for arranging the use of the club house. The potluck was such a great success we have added it to our yearly calendar of events.
JUNE
This
year’s annual Volunteer Appreciation luncheon theme
was “You are the Rainbow in
Someone’s Life”. Thank you
to Wesley
Ridge Community in Reynoldsburg who hosted
our luncheon this year and helped us
honor our volunteers
who give so much to the residents they visit.
Every few years we
have our luncheon at a different facility so the volunteers can discover what
is available in our area. In past years our luncheon has been hosted by Kensington
Place and Westminster Thurber Community.
AUGUST
Betty Brewer’s Angels had a booth at the Reynoldsburg Tomato
Festival!
Janet Barr and Eileen Ratliff,
two of our volunteers, did a fantastic job co-chairing
and organizing this event.
Janet and Martha |
In addition to Janet and Eileen, we want to thank Chris and
Thomas Vollmer, Bev and Herb Scholes, Drussane Saulis, Peggy Shields and Martha
Plumley for working so hard to make our booth a success. In addition to setting up the booth, they
distributed brochures, flyers and special Betty Brewer’s Angels fans while talking to
festival visitors about Betty Brewer’s Angels.
Also in August we were
proud to partner again with Macy’s “Shop
for a Cause”
Both of these partners donate needed funds to help keep Betty
Brewer’s Angels operating. Thank you Macy’s and Faith Lutheran!
--------------------------------------------------
We pleased to be able to provide ongoing training and fun events
for our volunteers because they all have such big hearts and caring spirits. They ARE the rainbow in others lives! Thank you to them and all the people who help
make our volunteers’ mission a reality!
